Hellboy II

Stacy and I wandered over to see Hellboy II last Thursday. (I tried to convince her to do the double bill with Batman at midnight but that didn’t pan out.) Anyway, I think we both enjoyed watching Hellboy II. I don’t think I’d watch it again. Wasn’t quite as good as the first one as they seemed to be going for more of a campy, cheesy appearance which just didn’t work for me.

The action sequences were cool and the fight with the Golden Army looked pretty wicked. All in all though, those things just didn’t make up for the lack of crank turn-age in other places.

So, I’d say watch it, on the bigscreen if you’re in the mood for a comic book movie, and have already seen Batman and Iron Man, else wait for the rental.

Wall-E

I seem to have missed writing about this one in the last couple weeks. I believe Stacy and I saw this the weekend after it was released. (Stacy had actually seen it the week before as well.)

Wall-E was fantastic. It’s a really well done flick with an interesting story. The animation looks good and nothing was over the top.

If you like animated flicks go check out Wall-E.

Batman :: The Dark Night

Stacy and I went over to see the new Batman flick last night. We caught the 11:30 showing so we didn’t actually get out of the theater until about 2:15am.

With that, it was well worth it. This move is very well done. The joker is fantastic, two-face looks really cool and batman, well, batman is batman. The action scenes look cool, the story is solid and the acting is great.

I also really liked the fact that in a few places I said to myself, ok, they’re going to wrap this up to give themselves sequel material, the movie then continued on and they closed off those threads.

Not to say there isn’t sequel material, just the movie went above and beyond what I was expecting.

Go watch it. Yes, you. Go watch it.

The Incredible Hulk

I convinced Stacy to see another superhero flick on the weekend. I think the fact that Edward Norton is the star helped with that a bit.

Anyway, while her opinion will differ, and I think it’s biased by her views going in, this movie was really well done. The animation is fantastic and it didn’t feel over the top. The hulk has visible and understandable facial emotions which I thought was pretty cool.

I’d recommend this to anyone that wants to see a good action flick.

The one thing I wasn’t able to sort out, does this movie ignore the first one or continue on? Stacy thinks it’s a continuation, I think it’s a ignore the first and start again.

Either way, this movie felt like the hulk.

The Bucket List

Filling in the last half of my flight to Seattle was The Bucket List. I’d never heard of this film before which is kind of surprising as Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman star.

It’s also surprising as it’s really fucking good. I picked it on a lark but I was really, really impressed with this movie. Its got a good combination of buddy buddy film, comedy and seriousness to make it work.

I’d recommend this movie and you wouldn’t even have to be on a plane to watch it.
