Forgetting Sarah Marshall …. Forget it

Categories: Movies

So, after a long hiatus Stacy and myself ventured out to see a movie yesterday. We figured we’d see Forgetting Sarah Marshall as it’s got some people behind it that we like.

Oh boy, were we disappointed. This movie tries too hard. It’s out to shock in places which just don’t fit. It can’t figure out which character you should have sympathy for. The writing is bad, which means I couldn’t tell if the acting was bad or if it was just the writing?

All in all. Skip this movie. Well, unless you want to see Jason Segal’s wang.

Giant sexy robots

Categories: Movies

There is something very sexy about giant robots smashing into other giant robots. Destroying shit with impunity. The CG in the new Transformers movie was very cool. All in all tho, I didn’t find it that great. Not something I’d see again.

The dialog was pretty cheesy in places, the plot stupid (Only this one person can solve the problem and they can do it in 30 seconds while the rest of the world has been working on it for days….).

But, hey, giant robots with guns…

Yippie-kay-ya….

As you’ve probably guessed, I went and saw Live free or die hard tonight and it was fucking fantastic.

It manages to hit just the right combination of over the top action and funny one liners to make this movie work. It was well worth the 11$ it cost to get into the theater. I must say, Bruce Willis has still got it as John McClane and Justin Long does a fantasic job as the sidekick.

I’ve gotta say, their truck made me think of the Blackbox all it needed was a Sun logo painted on the side.

I’ve had enough of this kung-fu shit.

Slogging through the Rain

Categories: Life, Movies, Video Games

Well the move is over. We’re now in the process of getting settled into the new condo. In the end I’m really happy we hired movers. There would have been no way for us to get all that stuff out of our old appartment and into the condo in the time limits we had. I think if I move again I’m going to hire painters, packers and movers. I’ll just wait an extra 6 months before moving, heh.

It pissed rain all day but the moving guys just parked their truck right outside so everything was dry by the time it was moved into the new place. I bought them coffee and donuts since they had to work through the rain all day. Not that I didn’t get soaked walking down to Hortons, but that’s beside the point.

After getting everything moved in on Thursday night we wandered over to the Sheppard Grande and watched The Fountain. I’m not quite sure if this was a good or bad movie. It was a bit strange to follow, but that could also be because I was exhaused. I also didn’t expect to come out of one of Darren Aronofsky’s movies and have a good understanding of what it was about. I think I liked it. I have no idea if anyone else would tho.

We’ve been ripping through the boxes and containers at the new place over the last few days. All the boxes and bins are now empty and you can actually walk across the condo without having to step over anything. Makes a big difference to get the books on the shelves and setting up some new shelving for the office closet.

We’re still trying to work out just what to do with the TV in the living room. We tried to mount it on the wall but the places the stud finder said a stud was located didn’t have anything behind it. It’s currently just sitting on what used to be the bar.

The kitchen is working out great. There is a lot more cupboard space in the condo, and we added some extra shelving to act as a pantry where we can hide all of the caned goods.

We had the condo people come in and fix the washing machine and the master bathtub on Friday. Which, in the end, was a bit of an adventure. When he was fixing the bathtub a piece shot out of it and water sprayed everywhere. There was about ten minutes where water just gushed out of the tap. Had to hold a shirt over it to direct the flow into the tub (instead of all over the floor) so the guy fixing it could run to get the tool to turn off the water. Floor was nicely soaked but I think we’ve got the carpet dried out.

In a fit of consumerism glory Stacy and I picked up a copy of Lego Starwars, Oblivion and a second Xbox 360 controller. Oblivion is fun, there are a couple UI things that bug me but I’ll be putting some time into this one as well. Starwas is really, really well done. Both Stacy and I are loving it. They’ve done a fantastic job getting everything to fit together. Hopefully both games hold up to the test of time.

That’s it for now.

Zippy

Well I’ve been lax in my updating again. I’ve got a good excuse. I’ve been busy. Bloody busy.

Lets see, where to begin. Stacy and I bought a condo the other weekend. We’ll finalize everything on the 23rd of November. (That’s when we get possession.) This should give us about a week to do any painting before we move on the 30th. We’re still in the process of getting movers, neither one of us wants to have to move all our crap ourselves. It’s going to be a hectic few weeks getting everything packed and arranged.

Hm, I guess next up is work. I’d been offered a job at another company, which I subsequently turned down. Was a bit of a shit storm at work. Everything is good now. I’ve moved more to focus on migration tools which is what I want to do. A lot of my other projects, as much as possible, have been transitioned off to other people. It’s nice to drop the baggage every now and then. So that’s good. Work’s actually at the point where I sit down, start working and, what feels like 30 seconds later, it’s time to go home.

I’ve finally taken my Amsterdam pictures off my camera. (You’re seeing one of theme in the post icon.) They turned out pretty well. A bunch are blurry. I really, really, need a camera with auto-stabilization, or something. All in all, I like em. As usual, if I ever get a gallery setup…

Movies, movies, I think I’ve seen two since I last posted. Borat and Flags of our Fathers. Both were really good movies. I wasn’t expecting much from Borat, I haven’t seen the show it’s based on but, I laughed, then I quoted a bit. The guys I went with all grew Borat style mustaches. I think the best part of the evening is when the bar tender (we went for drinks afterwards) asked one of the guys ‘Are you in a mustache club?’.

Lets see, thats the condo, the job, movies. Ah, right. Been poking at EWL again, as usual. Did a bunch of work on the Ewl_Text widget to hopefully make it faster. Ended up simplifying the code in a few places which is nice. Should also make it easier for RbdPngn to integrate his skiplist work once it’s complete.

I picked up Ratchet: Deadlocked about a year ago. Didn’t really play it then (according to the save file, 1.5hrs). Popped it in the other day and have been pleasantly surprised. It’s quite fun to run around and blow shit up with ridiculously sized weapons. 11 days to the Wii.

That’s it for now, I’ve got to get some sleep. I’ll try to post more regular like in the future. I swear.
