It’s been a fairly scattered few weeks. I’ve been jumping between books and things I want to poke. In no particular order the books/documentation I’ve perused over the last week or two:
- Old Man’s War
- The Ghost Brigades
- The Pragmatic Programmer: From Journeyman to Master
- Refactoring: Improving the Design of Existing Code
- How to Succeed in Anything by Really Trying
- Iphone in Action: Introduction to Web and SDK Development
- Programming Erlang: Software for a Concurrent World
- EventMachine documentation
- Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide
Of these, I managed to complete Old Man’s War in about a day (awesome book). The Ghost Brigades took about two days (another awesome book). Luckily, I haven’t been able to find the third book in the series in a look bookstore.
The rest of them, well it’s been a fairly random ride. I’ve been enjoying all of the books I just haven’t had the attention span to give a push all the way through any of them. I think this is more a side effect of not having found a project to work on yet. We use EventMachine a lot at work, so that would be interesting to poke at, I also have a few iPhone app ideas I’d like to kick out. Or, maybe, I’ll got play Fear 2 instead.
I’m down to a grand total of 3 books left in my reading list, and they’re all ones that I’ve had for the past 5-ish years and just didn’t get to yet. I recently started Don Quixote and what I’ve read so far is actually really slyly funny. I’ve also still got to get to the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Wuthering Heights was crap, enough so as to make me decide to just get rid of Persuasion, without having even read it. I suspect the Victorian romances are just not for me.
My actual reading list is a lot longer then this list. This is just my currently reading list. I did Wuthering Heights in highschool, don’t remember it being too bad but that’s a long time ago.
